No way of knowing if it's true or just another conspiracy theory... but it surely explains how the hell someone without a PhD would apply for the job, and actually get so far as to be one of the 3 finalists, beating out more qualified, experienced candidates. No wonder FSSA can't say what they really want.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35660741.post-1160448034048694942006-10-09T22:40:00.000-04:002006-10-09T22:40:00.000-04:00Would you believe that the NM School for the Deaf ...Would you believe that the NM School for the Deaf has a cochlear implant center? Yep. Ron Stern is a visionary. He knows that CIs don't work for every deaf child, and sooner or later many of them will come to schools for the deaf.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35660741.post-1160442151422553272006-10-09T21:02:00.000-04:002006-10-09T21:02:00.000-04:00My nephew was born Deaf and he had an implant when...My nephew was born Deaf and he had an implant when he was still a baby. It was his parents decision to do what they think is best for the future of their child. Now he is 4 and in a mainstream pre-school and talking like the wind.

Do I think this is wrong? Do I think that they should have just let him be Deaf? It is not MY decision since he is not my child. They are teaching him signing too but he will be able to communicate in both worlds and that is for his benefit. he will not have all the struggles. If I am missing a leg, I can get a prostetic one. What is the difference? It is something to help the person in his life.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35660741.post-1160413467236958522006-10-09T13:04:00.000-04:002006-10-09T13:04:00.000-04:00Ron Stern is Bilingual/Bicultural (ASL/ENGLISH) be...Ron Stern is Bilingual/Bicultural (ASL/ENGLISH) because Deaf or FSSA want him to become president in Gallaudet University. ASL only is ALIVE and the deaf community
maintains a tradition when I suspect that Deaf or FSSA have tried to get rid of total communication including SEE, PSE, and Oralist

It seems clearly point that Ron Stern is in opposition to cochlear implant that put deaf children.

Prism Online
April 1995
Speaking of signing
‘The surgical procedure of a cochlear implant is another example of an "informed decision" parents of the deaf have to make, according to Stern.
"It can be an invasive surgery with tragic cases," Stern says. And sometimes, Stern says, the procedure does not deliver the promised results, which is a clear sign that a child's deafness is not being accepted. Stern says in some cases he has "very serious doubts" about the procedure. “
http://www.journalism.sfsu.edu/www/pubs/prism/apr95/spea.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
